The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5 has recently redefined autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The diagnostic criteria for autism and associated diseases are being reclassified under the umbrella term ASD. The reclassification would include disorders like Asperger's disorder under the ASD umbrella while dropping diagnostic criteria based on symptom onset age.
