Dr. Pandey is presently working as Research Faculty member in Department of Neurology and Garrison Institute on Aging (GIA), TTUHSC. He received his doctoral degree from Lucknow University, India and postdoctoral research training from University of Cincinnati (Children's Hospital) and Garrison Institute on Aging, TTUHSC. His main area of research is in the field of Endocrinology, especially sex steroid hormones and male aging. His initial projects focused on identifying molecular mechanisms, using murine animal models and cell lines, that underlie hormonal and herbal approached to preventing and treating age-related diseases. Dr. Pandey has produced some seminal findings in the burgeoning field of non-pharmacologic, especially dietary, therapeutic approaches. For example, age-related decline in testosterone biosynthesis is associated with a decrease in the steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR) protein which regulates the rate-limiting step of testosterone biosynthesis. He has examined the effect of natural flavonoids on StAR gene expression in gonadal (Leydig) cells to explore the possibility of delaying this age-related decline in testosterone using a dietary approach.
Currently in the research field of oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and others.
