Biography

Avany Fernandes Pereira is Graduated in Nutrition from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1996), Master in Nutrition from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1999) and Ph.D. in Food Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2004). She is currently Associate Professor Level 3 at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and holds the position of director of the Josué de Castro Nutrition Institute -UFRJ. 

Research Interest

Mechanisms of smooth muscle relaxation, in particular the role GABAA channels may play in modulating airway smooth muscle and uterine smooth muscle relaxation.
