The Interplay between Diabetes and Obesity: Mechanisms, Implications, and Management Strategies

Diabetes and obesity are intricately linked metabolic disorders that significantly impact global health. Obesity is a major risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), contributing to insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and pancreatic beta-cell dysfunction. This review explores the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the relationship between obesity and diabetes, including the role of adipose tissue dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, and systemic inflammation. Additionally, we discuss the clinical implications of coexisting obesity and diabetes, including increased cardiovascular risk, complications, and reduced quality of life.
