Biography

Dr. Bianchi obtained his MD (1981) from “Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas da Santa Casa de Sao Paulo”, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I Montreal, Canada he obtained a Master Degree (1985) in Pathology from Universite de Montreal and a PhD (1989) in Experimental Medicine from Mc Gill University. He did a Posdoctoral fellowship ( 1989-2001) at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School) in Boston, MA, USA. He has published over 190 peer-reviewed publications, including 3 patents and 11 review articles/book chapters. He supervises numerous undergraduates, masters, doctoral students, and surgery residents. He is the director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Research Lab at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown Medical School, in Providence, RI, USA.

Research Interest

Dr. Bianchi’s research interests are in cardiovascular diseases, in particular, the influence of diets on acute myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury and biomarkers for complications of cardiac surgeries. His has a broad training spanning from light/electron microscopy to molecular and cellular biology of the cardiovascular system.
