Biography

Eugenia Makrantonaki is a medical doctor at the Departments of Dermatology, Allergology, Venereology and Immunology, in Dessau Medical Center (Dessau, Germany) and a research group leader in the Laboratory for Biogerontology, Dermato-Pharmacology and Dermato-Endocrinology, Institute of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Charité University Berlin, Campus Benjamin Franklin (Berlin, Germany). She holds a MD degree from the Aristoteles University (Thessaloniki, Greece) and a PhD in Medicine from Charité University Berlin. Recipient of the 3rd Tiburtius Prize of the Berlin Universities for the best dissertation, the Hermal Support Prize 2006- New concepts in diagnosis and treatment, the William Cunliffe Scientific Award 2006, the R.O.S.A. Prize (Research on Skin Dryness Award) 2008 and the Beauty Care Prize 2009 from the German Society of Dermatology for her contribution to the investigation of the molecular mechanisms involved in human skin aging. She is serving as a reviewer of reputed journals such as Experimental Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology and Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. She has contributed with several publications and book chapters.

Research Interest

The use of skin as a model for understanding the pathogenesis of aging and age-associated diseases of internal organs. The study of the effects of circulating hormones on the generation of aging. siRNA technology Evaluation of the biological effects of skin cells after treatment with herbal extracts. Effects of hormones on skin barrier function. Induction of pluripotent cells from human skin cells. Investigation of tumor cells obtained from M. Recklinghausen patients.
