Biography

Dr. Mohamed El-Shazly is an associate professor of Plastic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Assiut, Egypt. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Assiut University in 1991 and 1996. He received Ph.D. Microsurgery from University of Munich in Germany in 2002 as a fellow of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) where he developed and promoted the idea of endoscopic assisted microsurgery in Klinikum Grosshadern and Institute of Surgical Research of the University of Munich. He got his Doctorate degree in Plastic Surgery from Assiut University in 2003. Dr El-Shazly has three registered patents of microsurgical instruments; two of them were already prototyped. He was invited and presented his work in many international events and has more than 30 international publications. He is currently a reviewer, guest editor, and a scientific advisory board member in many concerned international plastic and reconstructive surgery journals. He got the best paper prize twice from the Egyptian Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons in 2002 and 2007. He was awarded many international training fellowships in Toulouse University- France (1998), Munich University – Germany (1999), Chang Gang University – Taiwan (2001) and Institute Gustav Roussy – France (2011). In 2005, he founded the charitable organization of Operation Smile Egypt which is presenting free reconstructive cleft surgeries to the children in need. Currently he is carrying out academic and research duties in addition to clinical practice at the University of Assiut. His major area of research interest is reconstructive microsurgery. A second area of interest is clinically oriented and involves rhinoplasty and cleft surgeries.
