Robert Sucher received his medical degree in 2004 from Innsbruck Medical University. Since 2002 he is actively involved in research activities at the D. Swarovski Research Laboratory of the Department of Visceral, Transplant and Thoracic Surgery, where he finished his M.D. thesis on intracellular signaling pathway studies during ischemia/reperfusion in solid organ transplantation.Dr. Sucher has published numerous scientific articles in peer reviewed journals, several book chapters, more than 100 abstracts at international conferences and received several national and international research awards including the Excellence in Research Award from the American College of Surgeons, the Distinguished Fellow Award from the American Society of Transplantation, the BIOTEST Award from the European Society of Transplantation and the Young Investigator Award from the Austrian Society of Transplantation. He is a founding member of the American Society of Reconstructive Transplantation, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Transplantation and a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery.The current activity of Dr. Sucher emphases on basic and translational research related to CTA, transplant immunology, stem cell-based immunomodulation and tolerance induction, mechanisms of skin rejection,immune monitoring (cytokine profiling, computational modeling), targeted therapeutics (biologic agents), gene therapy, ischemia reperfusion, nerve regeneration and tissue engineering.
