Objective: The objective is to study management of aortoiliac atherosclerotic lesions among 23 diabetic Yemeni patients with low cardiac ejection fraction and renal impairment, suffering from chronic lower limb ischemia and diabetic foot ulceration by applications of per-cutaneous trans-luminal balloon angioplasty and stenting. Setting: University of Science & Technology Hospital and Saudi-Germen Hospital in Sana�??a. Patients & Methods: 23 patients, age 45-to-75 years. They underwent routine investigations. The ordinary Seldenger angiographic technique through femoral & auxillary artery was the method of introduction. Techniques as balloons angioplasty, dynamic and self-expanding stenting were used. Results: Success rate was 91% while failure rate was 9% (2 patients converted to surgery). Conclusions: Endovascular approaches are the best options for management of aortoiliac lesions with high success rate especially for critical patients with high risk of surgical intervention.
Abdulkarem Al-Ameri is a Consultant of Endovascular & Vascular surgery. He has done his undergraduate in Aden University in 1986, the Hungarian Board in General Surgery specialty in 1995, the Hungarian Board in Vascular & Organ Transplantation subspecialty surgery in 1998. He is an Assistant Professor in Sana’a University / medical faculty and President of Yemen Vascular Society. He is a Board member of Gulf Vascular society, Asian Venous Forum and Asian Vascular Society. He is recognized as an International Honorary Member Professional Committee of Endovascology Chinese Medical Doctor Association.
