Abstract :

Insol-N tablet is a poly herbo-mineral Ayurvedic formulation that has created a new dimension in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The product is being used successfully since more than 25 years and it is established that Insol-N is very useful in keeping the blood sugar at normal level in non Insulin dependent diabetes. In a study on Alloxan diabetic rats, oral administration of Insol-N normalized the elevated blood glucose levels of diabetic rats after two to four weeks of therapy. Insol-N also showed significant reduction in blood glucose levels in oral glucose tolerance test. It was observed that glycogen and protein depletion observed in the diabetic rat tissue were reversed by Insol-N therapy. Enhanced lipid and cholesterol levels in the diabetic state were also found to be markedly reduced after treatment. Enhanced levels of tissue phosphatases and tissue transaminases in the diabetic tissues were significantly reduced indicating cytoprotective activity of Insol-N tablets. Most striking feature was that regeneration of B-cells and increased cell mass was noted in the pancreas of diabetic rats after Insol-N treatment. In Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Manipal University, in a survey study it was found that Insol-N reduced fasting blood glucose level and HbA1c up to 40% and 30% respectively in a span of three months. Further, the study indicates that patients were satisfied with this medication which denotes a further good relationship with the physician. Insol-N tablet is designed and developed by Muniyal Ayurvedic Research Centre Manipal under strict quality control measures. The product is established as safe even at higher doses and also for prolonged administration after subjecting it to toxicity studies as per international protocol under OECD guidelines.
