Prevalence of type-II diabetes mellitus in Sirte, Libya

Abstract :

This study based on diabetic patients followed up regularly in diabetic care centre, Sirte. Libya. Total population of Sirte was 193, 720: Out of which 12, 867 (6.64%) were diabetic. Among them 3, 849 (4.43%) were males and 9, 018 (10.14%) were females. The mean age was 35.4 ranged. Among the total population 9, 181 (71.4%) were Type-II diabetics, out of which obese sub type was 83.28%. If the patients, as well as the health care system do not take this disease seriously, devastating complications, sequel would result in significant morbidity, mortality and would impose a great financial burden on the health care system. Hence it is mandatory to find the means and methods to curb them.

Teja Chinta Surya is currently a Medical student at Avalon University School of Medicine, Curacao. He is from Hanuman Junction, Andhra Pradesh, South India and Qualified many Olympiad and competitive Exams in Schooling, Presently he iss doing Md4 semester as a part of Basic Science in Avalon University School of Medicine, Curacao.
