Abstract :

Calibre persistent artery of the lower lip is a vascular anomaly where the branches of the inferior labial artery maintain its size up to the submucosa of the lip. There is persistent pulsatile feeling and occasional ulceration and recurrent bleeding. Doppler ultrasound and angiogram are used to confirm diagnosis. Before this case report, treatment of this condition has been surgical excision. Histopathologic results of excised lesions have shown presence of numerous vasa vasorum and strong expression CD34 within the tissue. Propranolol has been found to target rapidly proliferating endothelial cell by increasing cellular apoptosis within the proliferating vessels, down regulation of vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) among other functions. We document the successful treatment with oral propanolol.
