Isoprenoids

Isoprene is a branched-chain unsaturated hydrocarbon, Isoprene has in fact two carbon-carbon double bonds. Isoprenoids contain from two to many thousands of isoprene units. Any of a category of organic compounds composed of two or more units of hydrocarbons; with each unit involving of five carbon atoms placed in a specific pattern is called Isoprenoids. Isoprenoids in living organisms range in function from pigments and fragrances to vitamins and precursors of sex hormones. Isoprenoids journal covers the fields of Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biotechnology. The isoprenoids are also the largest group of modern natural products, including over 30,000 known compounds, and they assist frequent biochemical functions: as quinones in electron transport chains, as mechanisms of membranes in subcellular targeting and regulation, as photosynthetic pigments, as hormones, and as plant defense compounds.
