Main Research Topics: Comparative immunobiology and molecular zoology, Isolation and characterization of bioactive peptides from marine invertebrate, Zoology, Evolutionary Biology and Entomology. In recent years, natural bio-resources are being viewed as a source of biologically active molecules. Currently, there is a very big competition between pharmaceutical companies to develop drugs derived from organisms in order to obtain new molecules more efficient in the treatment of resistant diseases and with lower costs of production. Our aim is create a strong multidisciplinary research environment for the discovery of bioactive molecules from plant and animals having applications in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, industrial products, biosensors, diagnostic substances and biotechnological tools. The research program followed by “biotechnology of natural bioactive substances” is based on zoology, botany, ecology, pharmacology and molecular and cellular biology strategies to discover, isolate, characterize and assess effects of new bioactive molecules.
