Acute Tubular Necrosis is common kidney injury involving injury and dysfunction of tubular cell that forms renal tubules of the kidney. It results in decreased renal function and elevation of plasma blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine.
Acute tubular necrosis characterised by the damage of tubule cell and cell death usually result from an acute ischemic or toxic event. Nephrotoxic mechanisms of acute tubular necrosis include intra tubular obstruction, direct drug toxicity and intra renal vasoconstriction. Risks include: Low blood pressure for more than 30 minutes, major surgery recently, Injury or trauma of muscles, Blood transfusion reaction, septic shock, acute tubular necrosis also results from X-ray dyes, medications toxic to the kidneys.
