Introduction: The prime indicators of an effective therapy have moved from mortality rates and survival advantage as towards quality of life to be the objective of medical care. Especially in the ?eld of kidney diseases with now achievable excellent long-term survival rates, patient quality of life is becoming an increasingly important consideration. Worldwide, end-stage renal disease (ESRD) has produced a burden that is both social and economic. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to investigate the quality of life domains and quality of sleep in dialysis and transplanted patients and to provide a comparison of quality of life and quality of sleep between these groups, as well as factors that affect them in dialysis and transplanted patients. Patients & Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. Quality of Life Scale, 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) was completed by 61 dialysis patients and 62 transplanted patients in Ahmed Qasim Hospital in Khartoum state. The data were evaluated using mean values, standard deviations, minimums, maximums, percentages, independent samples t-tests, Pearson correlation analyses and one-way variance analyses. Results: The quality of life domains scores and quality of sleep score in transplanted patients were found to be significantly higher than those of hemodialysis patients (P<0.05) and many socio-demographic factors found to have significant relationship with different domains of quality of life and quality of sleep (P<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that the quality of life in transplanted patients found to be better than dialysis patients and were affected by various factors.

She has completed her Rural Residency for two weeks for field training, mini survey conduction and public health education. She is a Member of Academic Secretary in the Faculty of Medicine at University of Khartoum, Sudan. She is a participant in volunteering program in the World Health Organization
